Well, it was cheaper and easier. It WAS supposed to be a compostion console, right? Anyway, Harry Sitam at Heiders SF made a profound suggestion: make the module spacing follow that of future factory components, say, like API modules. So that's what ended up as the standard - two banks of 10 inputs. And the spacing was perfect for API faders as planned.
